ETEROTOPIE

eterotopie began with our founder’s encounter with Michel Foucault’s concept of heterotopia, and her desire to explore how sensory experiences, particularly through scent and touch, might transform our perception of time and space.

Fragrance is an inherently intimate and subjective experience.

No single composition holds universal appeal. Perhaps it is precisely this subjectivity that gives fragrance its singular character. Of all our senses, the sense of smell possesses a remarkable immediacy, capable of altering our perception of a moment before we are fully conscious of it.

With a background in clinical practice, our founder has devoted many years to the exploration of meditation and aromatic traditions. Her personal sensitivity to synthetic fragrances, regardless of how exquisite their compositions might be, led her to work exclusively with botanical essential oils. Beyond the choice of materials,

however, lay a more fundamental aspiration: to create fragrances that do not seek to stimulate the mind, but rather invite it into stillness.

We do not define eterotopie as a perfume brand, a cosmetics brand, or a body care brand.

Rather, we aspire to be a quiet companion amid the ceaseless rhythms of everyday life. Through a moment of pause, a conscious breath, or a subtle sensory encounter, we hope to offer a brief departure from the familiar — an invitation to inhabit, however fleetingly,

a heterotopia of your own.

Places of this kind are outside of all places,
even though it may be possible to indicate their location in reality.
The heterotopia begins to function at full capacity
when men arrive at a sort of absolute break with their traditional time.
